why we do it
even playing field was formed in June 2019 to bring female specific sportswear and equipment to the girls and women of Canberra and the surrounding areas after our Founder, Helen, was asked by her daughter why there was such a difference between what was offered to her as young female soccer player compared to her younger brother. He was receiving his personalised home & away kits, monogrammed training gear and backpacks at a catered event for his Under 10 team, while she was given an off the shelf men's training top and a men's kit that didn't fit for her Premier League debut season in a room half the size, full to the brim of proud supporters, standing, trying to get a view of their daughter or partner selected into the Women's National Premier League .
How do you explain this difference to a young women?
It's not OK anymore for girls and women to have to wear men's jersey, playing kits, football boots or goalkeeping gloves. They don't fit, look horrible, hinder their performance and most importantly, affect their confidence.
It is time for women and girls to be able to access quality sportswear and equipment that has been specifically designed for the female body.

Our Founder, Helen Ritchie, is a born and bred Canberran who was a netball and soccer representative back in her day. She is an avid sports fan and Mother of 3 gorgeous children; Georgia is an representative goalkeeper in both soccer and futsal; Reuben lives and breathes soccer and basketball and Eddie loves every sport he tries. |
When Helen was a young soccer player she cut off all my hair so that she wouldn’t be treated differently to the boys. Thankfully sporting culture has come a long way since then and now females can play in any sport they like at an elite level if they wish. But we still have work to do to even the playing field for females in sport; equal pay, proper changing facilities; but let's start with sportswear that fits!
